Today at 9:00 a.m. I lost my WONDERFUL horse, Paige. She was my friend, my best buddy and we went on rides everywhere together. She was a retired Champion barrel racer who taught kids to ride for the last ten years. I used her for trails and she was awesome. If I could transplat her brain into another horse, I would. Unfortunately she was 30 years old and life was too much for her now. She went down and I let her go peacefully. I have written before about her declining state of being and received many nice thoughts from my Highway Junkie friends. Today her time was up. I am REALLY SAD !! Hoping I can deal with the day.

So sad to hear of your horse's passing. I remember your posts on your horse, my daughter loves horses, and enjoyed reading about Paige. That was a long time to have her and love her. Hope it gets easier to bear.

So sorry for the loss of your horse Paige.Sounds like you had a wonderful life together!

Sorry to hear that. Today was a bad day for horses, my cousin just lost her barrel horse.
They will be running around up there together. I know how difficult it must be, but try to remember all the good times.

Hey Everyone. THANK YOU so much for all your thoughts. It's still tough for me. It's especially tough for my two 4-year-old horses who made Paige their "mom". They still holler for her. Also, her special Buddy "Kiki" who is 22 years old, is missing her real bad. I wish I could tell them, but they did see Paige until the end, so maybe they know. I'm still trying to cope. On my way to work today, listening to Gary's new CD, lines in certain songs just brought tears. In "We Touched The Sun", the line "we chased our dreams, that went beyond, we did it all, we touched the sun". That was Paige and I, we ran together at sunsets, and didn't have a worry in the world. I'll miss her!!

Hey,
I picked up an old copy of Horse Illustrated today and saw a column about one of the editors losing her horse to cancer. It was a really beautiful story and at the bottom was a quote from Black Beauty, which reminded me of your horse. It said
"... and so I nothing to fear; and here my story ends. My troubles are all over, and I am at home; and often before I am quite awake, I fancy I am in the orchard at Birtwick, standing with my old friends under the apple trees."
I'm sure that Paige is in Heaven doing all of her favorite things. I'm thinking of you.

How beautiful !! Paige WAS my "Black Beauty" as she was a nice black horse with one white sock. I know she is running up there, probably around the barrels, maybe on trails, or taking little angels for rides, as she LOVED kids. She would follow any kid around the pasture. I could also put any little one on her and leave them. She was like a babysitter. AWESOME, AWESOME horse and I told her that as she left this world. When spring comes, I will plant a beautiful flowering tree over her.

My heart goes out to you and I know exactly how you feel.
It's been 3 years since I lost my horse and I had him for 26 years. It does get easier over time, but you'll still catch yourself looking for them in the barn or pasture. Just remember the good times and that will get you through. I had a tattoo of my horse put on my shoulder so he will always be with me.

I'm sorry about your horse. I haven't had a horse in a long time, and actually my dad had horses when were small, but I am sure it must feel like a huge part of you is missing. I have seen the bond horses develop with their owners, and it's the most amazing thing. My ex husband had a horse that he roped with. He had her since she was really young, and they both learned how to rope together. When he was roping on that horse, it was amazing. She knew exactly what to do all the time. Well, we got divorced and he decided to join the Army so he had to sell her. I felt so guilty about that because I knew he loved that horse, and she loved him. I haven't heard who has her now, but I still talk to my ex, and he really does miss her. She never liked me though. Once, he was riding her and he wanted me to get on also. I was hesitant because I was afraid of her..she was huge, and mean to me. So, when I got on, she tried to buck. I got off and she never did it again. She was overprotective of him! It's weird. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss, and by what I have read, it sounds like you all a lot of fun together, and I'm sure she lived a great life.

I'm so sorry you lost your horse. i know how you feel my mom lost her horse, fancy, when I was seven and she had her for 32 years. and you always get so attached to your animals and I'm always devestated when I lose one but the time you have with them is always worth the pain of losing them. I know I'll always have a pet and animals are wonderful. Animals are great friends because they don't care what you look like, how much money you make, they just love you as much as you love them. I'm so sorry again.
