the family's 13 yr old blue heeler auzzie passed away in his sleep last nite after being ran over and dragged down the street by the mailman yesterday. he had to get both hips replaced so they did surgery but he didn't make it through the nite. sad.gif

he was very very cute dog with his blue spots and a black patch over one eye. he loved loved loved to play ball and chasing the squirrels. i will always remember him chasing me in the grass and nipping at my heels when his cowdog instincts came out. he would always go on family camping trips with us. i remember when we took him on his first hike. it was like 12 miles and he was just a baby and got carried most the way! the first time my dad made me drive, auzzie was in the back of the suburban after a day of fishing and he farted the whole way home! it always cracked me up when we would snow blow the drive way and he'd do crazy jumps so he could catch the shooting snow in his mouth.

i didnt even get to tell him goodbye because he lives at home in idaho and i'm in nevada. anyway, we are all pretty bummed. we grew up with only cats and this was the only dog our dad let us keep. at least i know theres lots of kitties for him to chase where he is now!

When I lose a fuzzy family member, I always read this poem....

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That brought tears to my eyes...I know I've heard of this poem but never had a chance to read it. It's beautiful and should bring comfort to those who've lost a fuzzy loved-one. sad.gif
