I very rarely spend time on the Off Topic site, and even less often post to it, I'm usually "All About Gary" all the time...but this week I received the new Eric Church CD in the mail and I want to write about it. Eric has impressed me from the start with his to-h*ck-with-the-industry,I'm-doing-it-my-way attitude and music, and this new CD continues that. He's so gifted at writing a familiar thought in a whole new way that breaks the mold of cliche, especially on "Where She Told Me to Go."
If I were to recommend just one song from this CD to my fellow GA junkies, however, it would be "Lotta Boot Left to Fill." That song is SO how I feel about popular country radio right now, and I would hazard a guess that there are a lot of you who respect Gary's integrity and talent who would love this song too. Gary is not mentioned in the song per se, but the attitude of the song sounds very much like something I could hear coming from Gary.
No one artist we hear on radio today is named in the song, so I am not sure if my favorite line upon my first hearing of this song is for a certain Georgian JA who does hard-rocking "country" songs that I have yet to fall in love with like radio has. Even if no one in particular was on Eric's mind when he wrote the line, I still think it is the gem line of the song: "You may sing about Johnny Cash, but if he were alive he'd whip your a**." Amen, Eric, I agree wholeheartedly there!
JMHO, but while we are all anxiously awaiting Gary's new music, give this Eric Church some time on your player and I think you will enjoy it a great deal.
