Full Version: May I Please Ask a Silly Question?

Okay, I probably sound like a total idiot rookie by asking this question so please don't anybody be offended for me not knowing this as one of Gary's fans. My excuse is that I discovered Gary because of suffering depression and his incredible courage to share the story of his and Angela's struggle with the tortorus disease. I'm one of probably countless people that Gary helped save the life of by him being so courageous.

So I admit I wasn't involved with Gary's music from the beginning of his career and am playing catch up. I'll be a fan for life for sure, but just arrived at being a fan from perhaps a slightly different angle than the majority.

But here's my silly question -- why are Gay's fans called "Junkies"?

Thanks.

Ever see the movie "Black Dog" starring Patrick Swayze, Meatloaf, and Randy Travis? Patrick Swayze is a truck driver...anyway, Gary sings a song on the movie soundtrack called Highway Junkie. Great tune! So, we are all Junkies.

Thanks HP. Never heard of it, but I'll be looking it up.

It's not a silly question...It's kinda Half&Half...Yeh, the term came from the movie...But, long before KU, RF, and the major tours...It was a reference to the "die hard" fans...The ones who planned their "concert season" around "the man"; and, then filled in everyone else after! happy.gif Then, it just kinda became a general "fan" term...Why "junkie"...'Cause, after the "first" time...Your Hooked!!! wink.gif

Thanks -- that makes sense. I agree with the "getting hooked" meaning of junkie as relates to Gary's music and his character.

Thanks for helping me out. Keep smiling!!

If I am not mistaken it was voted on one time by the fan club and Highway Junkies was chosen. I wasn't at that meeting so I don't know first hand but I'm pretty sure I have heard that from some of the fans that have been around longer than I have.

Jo if you know the answer to this can you please help us out. I figure if anyone knows it would be you.

Love your picture with him. How tall is he? Hopefully one day he will come to Australia again and this time I won't miss seeing him. LOL

I have loved Gary since he first came out. Once you see him you are hooked. And also seeing in concert you really get hooked! For those who have not yet seen Black Dog you need to!

Highway Junkies sure fits Gary's fans. At one time I would drive a long distance to see Gary Live!!! Until my husband put a stop to it. Can't even see Gary live anymore unless the hubby comes along. However I did see Gary a couple times last year. Once with my Hubby and the other time my son and his fiance went with me. There is nothing better then seeing Gary Live!!! His shows are the Best!!!!!
