I know. I know. This is waaaay off topic but since I just moved to TX I haven't really had a chance to meet anyone yet & I was wondering about something.

I hate wearing makeup & found that I LOVE mineral makeup but I was havin trouble finding one that I could wear & really liked.

I can't wear Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) bcuz it breaks me out (I get all itchy & a rash that looks like I got hella sunburned) & plus it has expiration dates .... did u know that?! I didn't.

I was using L'Oreal's Bare Natural & Physician's Formula but they seemed to feel kind of heavy & cakey-ish.

After a little research I discovered that a lot of the mineral makeups contain bismuth oxychloride (a by-product of lead & copper processing & is irritating to skin) & a TON of other ingredients that don't sound like they should be spread on my skin. Also..... when did talc become a mineral?!?!

Has anyone tried the "Purely Cosmetics" mineral makeup??

I ordered some samples & will try that one out. It seems to have the least ingredients of any mineral makeup (4-5 ingredients).

I also found it interesting that they have a product comparison for ingredients on their website. It was a little scary reading that actually.

Any thoughts on this would be totally cool.

I dont know I use Covergirl so i dont know!

I use the Bare Escentuals & love it.
I also had no idea about what you wrote, did know about the expiration date though. Sounds like you really did your research, let me know how it turns out with the purely cosmetics brand, I never heard of it but it def sounds like it can be better with less stuff in it.
RIGA
Well, since everyone is mentioning brand names, I guess I can too. I sell and use Mary Kay mineral powder. It is compared quality-wise to Lancome and Estee Lauder, but is a FRACTION of the cost. wink.gif

The reason that particular one has an expiration date, is anything with spf in it, or claim they protect against harmful rays of the sun, do expire. (the spf no longer is effective)
steffie820
I swear by Bare Escentuals. Doesn't every piece of make up have expiration dates? but I will go home and look at the ingredient list. I should really know what goes on my skin every morning.

The "Mineral Veil" (what a silly name for powder foundation) is great, it doesn't go on cakey like other foundations because it isn't a liquid. I sound like an infomercial, sorry. I have never heard of the other product you mentioned but I'm intrigued.

I used the Loreal and I didn't like it becauseI have big pores and it doesnt cover...This probley doesnt help you girls with good skin.LOL. Sorry.
donna
I use Bare Escentuals.......but would like to hear about the purely Cosmetics after you try it! Bare Minerals is one a just a few makeups I can wear!!
Babygirl
I have always used Estée Lauder for my base make-up but I just bought Glo-Minerals yesterday. They said it is good for your skin, so I thought I'd buy it. Haven't tried it yet, but I will let you know if I like it or not.
barbara1064
I've been using sheer cover for a number of years and really like it. It's light and looks natural.

ShelbyGregg
I got my samples in & tried out the first color. I really like this makeup. It doesn't feel cakey or anything. I haven't started itching or anything yet. We'll see as the day goes on.

I was going to try the Sheer Cover (Leeza Gibbon's makeup) until I saw that they have bismuth oxychloride in it. That stuff just scares me the more I read about it. Plus it's the same stuff in Bare Minerals & that makeup gives me a rash.
Cindy lee
I am with you, I have to watch what I use because of my sensetive skin. Alot of things break me out or make me itch. I just started using Mary kay Mineral line. I really like and it doesn't feel cakey or heavy.
aliciatx
I cant help you either....I have never used mineral make up.

I use Merle Norman (Im not sure if that is a big chain or not so you maybe have never heard of it) make up.

Have been wanting to try the Mineral makeups advertised on t.v. I have tried the LoReal but not too impressed with it because it just doesn't cover like I want it to. I have adult acne every now and then and I want something that will hide the blemishes. Guessing I am asking for a miracle!! My niece is a Mary Kay consultant so I may have to try some of that and see how it works for me.
ShelbyGregg
So far so good with the Purely Cosmetics mineral makeup.

I also found another one that only has the 4-5 main ingredients & not all of the other stuff in it. It's called Everyday Minerals. You can order samples for free, you just pay for the shipping.
Vicki B.
Thanks for the info!

Also..... when did talc become a mineral?!?!

Ha! Ha! Ha! Talc has always been a mineral. They use it to make talcum powder. Too cute! laugh.gif

I wear Bare Minerals and LOVE it but I have a friend who doesn't care for it. It does seem like hit and miss. I am really careful about protecting my skin from the sun so I like the fact that it has SPF in it. Hopefully the Purely Cosmetics mineral makeup will work good for you. Like others have stated, I am always open to try new things so keep us updated on what you try and what you like. biggrin.gif

I tried Bare Escentuals and didn't like it, I gave it to my sister. I don't use any powder on my skin, other than a bronzer. I found the BE was very powdery (even if I used very little) and it just made me look older, which I DON'T need. It did NOT look natural on me at all.
TriniGirl
I wear Bare Essentuals and love it. Both of my sisters tried it and loved it as well. I also tried Sheer Cover and liked that as well. I havent tried the others, but my neice uses Mac Studio Fix and loves it. I am curious about the makeup you ordered.

I ordered the foundation and the mineral veil. I think it works better on younger skin. It didn't do anything for me at all, it made me look older. sad.gif I was so disappointed because I was excited not to have to use a liquid foundation anymore.
ShelbyGregg
The more research I've done the more interesting mineral makeup has become to me. Weird. I know. laugh.gif

I've discovered that "true" mineral makeup only has 4-5 core ingredients. What makes it "true mineral makeup" is if the ingredients are "from the earth." Most of the big name makeup companies are using these ingredients but then they add all kinds of other minerals/fillers that aren't "from the earth." The ones that use talc for example are only using it as a filler to make it look like your getting more.

Bare Minerals is the oldest one out there. I think they were actually the first ones however, there are a bunch more out there that are "true" mineral makeups like BM & they aren't as expensive. I found Purely Cosmetics & Everyday Minerals.

I'm trying the Purely Cosmetics right now. PC is actually owned & made by a woman in California. When I ordered the samples she noticed that I had ordered all of the light/fair colors except for one so she threw in a free sample of that one.

It worked really good. My sister said that she couldn't tell I had makeup on but she thought I looked a lil different ... my skin looked kind of dewy, luminescent like.

I only got a little bit itchy around my nose/cheek area but I have the infamous T-zone so I emailed Robyn (PC owner) to see if she had any suggestions. I'm waiting to hear back from her.

I swear by Arbonne!

I did try the Glo-minerals yesterday but I still haven't made up my mind about it yet. I need more than one try. wink.gif

I've thought of trying Merle Norman...do you use their skin care?

Shelby, I was going to suggest Everyday Minerals. I've heard great things about it!

I used Merle Norman years ago but I couldn't afford it so I had to stop.

I was going to try out the Everyday Minerals too.

I heard back from the owner of Purely Cosmetics & she had me do a patch test. We figured out that I probably need to do a primer (veil) thing before I do the foundation. Since I have the T-zone the primer will help soak up the oil as it comes through on my skin as well as making the foundation go on better.
Alright ND Girl
Did you like Merle Norman?

I think that's what I need to use...a primer. I have the T-zone thing too. I thought that crap was for high school only!! huh.gif wink.gif

LOLOL!! I wish it was for high school!!! I have the T-zone & so does my daughter. Although she seems to have it a little bit worse than I do.

I thought the Merle Norman stuff was o.k.

I'm really a L'Oreal girl. I have been for years. Once I found out that they own Lancome & Maybelline, among many other brands I figured they knew what they were doing. Although I was bummed that I didn't like their mineral makeup. Oh well, I can still use all their other awesome stuff.

Skin care is a funny thing. There is no end to what you can spend out there these days. I always think back to my days in cosmetology school though what I learned way back then that when it comes to moisturizers that whether you spend a couple bucks or a hundred the basic ingredients are usually the same. For me same goes for make up. I did recently buy the bare escentuals mineral make up and love it though. It's spendy though and honestly not a whole lot different than my fav cover girl product that's under $10. What I do like though is it doesn't feel heavy like some of the others though and doesn't seem to make my skin oily. So whether you spend a little or a lot as long as you like it that's what counts. Working where I do when people ask me about my skin care and make up they always laugh and go that's it? Yep, that's it. Nothing fancy for a few hundred dollars for this chick. I have access to it all but still like pretty plain stuff.

Alright ND Girl you are so right though primer is a good thing. Love it!

My Mom has used Oil of Olay her entire life. She still uses the original formula although now it has spf in it. LOLOL. She's 75 & looks like she's 55. She swears by it. You would think one of her 5 daughters would learn by example.........

No such luck. My sisters & I all still try different things. My one sisters bathroom looks like a drugstore.

I'm a big fan of the St. Ives Apricot Scrub & now they have a new line called St. Ives Elements which is more "spa like" cleansers. They also have a really good moisturizer that I use.
CindyG
I LOVE SheerCover and RAW Minerals.. They're both awesome, flawless coverage. You can see the difference instantly .... smile.gif

There is a line of skin care and make-up put out by a company called Philosophy. I have tried there cleanser and love it. I've never tried the make-up. I'm a Bare Minerals and Laura Gellar girl.

Try the Philosophy though. The products are advertised as "make-up optianal" skin. smile.gif smile.gif

I have been a advid user of bare minerals for 7yrs. I have never used ne thing diffrent since. Im really bad at taking off my make up at night and when i used to use foundation my skin would break out. I have never had that from BM. But good luck on finding something that works for you wink.gif
Babygirl
I used the glo-minerals today and I think it has made my face break out. I've never had this problem before. huh.gif
