I'm getting ready to buy a new camera and trying to do some research. Do any of you have a digital camera you really, really love?! I'm looking for something that takes good action shots (my kids never sit still) -- something that will take good shots at my daughters horse shows, something with a good zoom and of course, something that takes good concert pics. I'm looking at spending less than $600.00. Advice anyone?

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NIKON COOLPIX P80 DIGITAL CAMERA AND SO FAR IT'S GREAT. IT'S 12 MEGAPIXELS AND 18XZOOM(WANTED THAT FOR GARY'S PICS!!!) AND ALSO HAS IMAGE STABILIZATION FEATURE (FOR THE SQUIRMY KIDS AND MOVING OBJECTS...AS IN GARY ON STAGE!!!)I THINK IT WAS CLOSE TO $400...THE MOST I'VE EVER SPENT ON A CAMERA. BUT IT TAKES GREAT DETAIL SHOTS...I CAN COUNT MY HUSBANDS WHISKERS ON HIS PICS!!! IT CAN EVEN DO FAST-ACTION SHOTS(THAT SHOULD BE GOOD FOR THE HORSE SHOWS) I DON'T KNOW ALOT ABOUT SHOOTING GOOD PICS, SO I USE THE AUTOMATIC SETTING ALL THE TIME AND IT'S BEEN GREAT. HOPE THIS HELPS. rolleyes.gif

Hi jszoo
I have a Canon Powershot SX100 8.0 megapixel and 10x opical zoom. But Julie and I found out that it actually gets closer. Also it has the image stabiler. If you want to see the pictures go and check out my pictures from the fanclub. She was using my camera all day at the party. You can also see shots from outside too. I have no idea how much it was it was a gift.
Good Luck

Hey, I went through this a few months ago. It is a tough decision. I couldn't decide on a SLR or point and shoot. Decided not to get the SLR because they were just too much money but went for higher end p&s. I did alot of research and finally settled on the Panasonic DMC-FZ18. It takes great pictures and has a 18x zoom. I couldn't get a decent one of the kids playing soccer or baseball and this one does a great job. At the Cleveland concert we were up in the stands but I still got great pictures. When I switch to nature mode I could zoom much higher than 18x. Here is the link if you want to check them out. http://photobucket.com/jproudfoot
