The American Idol is an interesting phenomena...it's purely a money maker. Simon is padding his pockets thick...kudos to him. But the entertainment industry wants these artists to suceed because record labels have put themselves on the line and are using their money and influence to sell their product. It has nothing to do with real artists...it is what it is. I don't know that I am against it, but there are definately injustices that even happen within the game (like Daughtry). It became a popularity contest not a talent contest. I agree about Daughtry, I was so blown away when he was voted off...I still remember the look on his face. It was a look of total shock--if you ever get to see that clip somewhere it is worth watching. It is imprinted in my brain. Then you get a guy like Taylor Hicks that wins. Please, where is he now? The talent proved to win out...Daughtry is everywhere! Excellent voice, love him. David Cook, a fellow Missourian, should win the battle this year, but I was that confident about Daughtry and look what happened.
But if I was a singer/musician like Gary Allan it would be frustrating to see the industry stand behind the no names and push them into stardom. I would feel unimportant and overlooked. But, that being said, I have no doubt that Gary Allan will continue to put out album after album and have hit after hit for years to come. His track record speaks for itself. He doesn't need a label given to him--he did that himself. (How he got his first recording is a great story.) He knows who he is and what he wants to say...he's not a fad.
As a final thought, (I am a licensed professional counselor, and mental health is what I think about), I am curious as to how these American Idol winners will handle the life they are thrust into and even more concerning how they will deal with being forgotten when that happens for many of them. That is a problem that true artists like Gary Allan will not have to face. He will be 60 years old and us 60 year old women will be flocking to whatever venue he will play at.

[/color]Ya i saw him tear up last night after they said that. He was on an emotional rollacoaster bc his brother was there. The whole story of his brother having brain cancer was so sad. Im sure having him there wasnt helping his emotions. David Cook better win, he deserves it.

Love, love, love David Cook....having said that I have nothing against Taylor Hicks, but he just lost his record deal and Daughtry had the biggest selling album of 2007, so I think that speaks for itself.

IT'S ALREADY BEEN PROVEN , THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO WIN, TO DO GOOD. IT'S JUST GETTING OUT THERE AND LETTING PEOPLE AND RECORD LABELS SEE YOU. THEY KNOW WHAT WILL SELL. BUT REMEMBER THE PUBLIC IS VOTING. BUT SOME OF THEM HAVE TO BE OUT OF THEIR MINDS. LOL. I THINK SOMETIMES THE FEEL SORRY FOR ONE OR SOMETHING. I AM PROUD OF DAUGHTRY.

I don't think it should be a slap in the face to anybody. Most of the contestants this season and seasons past have worked hard to make it in the music industry. Kelly Clarkson was a struggling artist when she made it on the show. David Cook has been at this for years and Michael Johns was big here in the south with his band The Rising. His deal just was made at the wrong time with a company that feel through. Kristy Lee Cook has the same story. She has an album and it is good. Last year' s Blake and Chris Rich and Sligh were all trying to break into the industry. It is just a tool to use to help. They do not work any less than any of the other artists out there!! With them taking over country I like it. It's not the same ole people over and over. Now my love with always be with Gary and he will an always has been my number one... but one does get tired of all the Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban songs out there.... Just my opinion!!!

Anyone else snag "Analog Heart" before Amazon pulled it?

I got there to late for Analog Heart. Amazon had already pulled it. I would definitly like to hear it so I guess I'll just have to wait until after AI is over. It seems silly to pull it when it was out way before AI.

Yes, they do seem to be taking over. Granted, they have talent but I agree that people like Gary go unrecognized. The man has more talent than any of those people ever thought about having and yet, he gets no awards or anything. But, even without the awards Gary has to know that he has some devoted fans that DO recognize that he is special and has an unprecidented talent that some people have not discovered yet. His day will come. All in due time. When the Lord feels like it is his time!

I have analog heart also... it is great.. I love David's raw, raspy voice and the songs are brilliant. Heart wrenchingly true!!!
**As a side note** I think that Gary deserves a lot more recognition than he gets but just as long as he does not conform like the rest of those people getting recognition. I also think he knows he has those die hard fans that will be here for always!!!!!!!!!

I'm still mad at AI for foisting Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler on us. And once they got rid of the hot Australian guy who could actually sing, I decided there was no reason for me to start watching now. lol
