Just thought I would share something about this song.. I found a version by Marty Stuart. Didn't know he sang this song.. It is on the album Hillbilly Rock. I know it is not Gary but at least you can listen to the song and think of Gary singing it.. If somebody already posted this info, sorry I'm repeating it.. I was just so excited when I found this song.. Gary really needs to put it on one of his albums..

I'm so glad I finally got to hear Gary do this, in Owensboro in 2005. I know as he releases more CDs, he's naturally going to do more of his own songs, but I do miss him doing songs by others too....

I like the idea of a "I sang this in concert but never recorded it" CD....

Wouldn't that be great?! They should do a Live album with all those songs he does in shows that aren't available anywhere. They really should have done one as a campanion to the greatest hits CD.

I believe Joe Ely wrote "Me and Billy the Kid" - I have heard him perform it live on the Songwriters tour that included him along with Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, and Guy Clark.

I'd love to hear Gary sing that.
